Insecure is back! The long-awaited season 4 premiered on HBO, after a one-year hiatus.

This season seems like it will focus on Issa and Molly’s friendship dynamics, as seen in the opening scene. Where we see Issa on a phone call saying ‘She does not fuck with Molly anymore’.

We then see a scene where Molly calls Issa messy for befriending Condola who is now dating her ex Lawrence, which could build into why their friendship deteriorates.

Fans of the show are not too happy with Molly and are rallying for Issa to cut her off. They believe that Molly is not being self-reflective of her messiness but she wants to call out Issa on hers. I fully agree that Molly was being messy confronting Issa at her event, she should picked a different day to address the issue and let Issa bask in the glory of her successful mixer.

Now, Molly and Issa have been serving us best friend goals since the first season — in their functionality and dysfunctionality. If their friendship breaks up, it won’t be because of Molly alone, but Issa as well. Starting from the song Issa made about Molly's “broken pussy”.

It is easy to look at this episode and think Molly doesn’t support Issa, but let’s not forget who accidentally bumped into Lawrence at his new workplace to know if he would work things out with Issa and hosted a Morocco-themed girls night dinner because her friend didn’t have money to pay for an actual trip, I could go on but you can watch the episodes and see for yourself.

We still don’t know what led to the demise of their friendship. However, their friendship should not come to an end. In reality, friendships are not always a bed of roses but like any normal relationship/friendship they have ups and downs, fights and miscommunications — and cutting off friends is not always the solution, especially if the friend is worth it.

Issa and Molly need to work on themselves individually and on their friendship, especially if the issue is a lack of communication and accountability. The two should apply the principles of romantic relationships to their friendship, such as; improving their communication skills and effectively holding each other accountable in a way that does not put the other down — maybe even go for friendship therapy.

In the end, fictional or not Issa and Molly are perfect for each friendship — and their relationship is one of the best in the show.

I am rooting for them!
